Training Instructors


All instructors are separate coaches and paid directly by students. All appointments and payments are to be made directly to instructors. The only way to schedule private lessons is to contact instructors directly on their cell phones.


 

Doug Finch

Doug Finch has been teaching professionally for over 15 years, both in private practice and through clinics. His teachings and mechanics have been men tored and tested by Dr. Sherry L. Werner at the highest levels. Within the largest database of fastpitch pitching studies, Dr. Werner has demonstrated that Finch's teachings and mechanics achieve top ratings for being the safest and most efficient of anyone in the world. The success of Jennie and his many ASA and NCAA national champion students have been the driving force in Finch's pursuit of pitching mechanics excellence.

Bud Smith

Born in Torrance, California in 1979 Bud Smith, a left-hander, pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2001-2002. Bud has the distinction of pitching a no-hitter against the San Diego Padres during his rookie year, an accomplishment that helped him finish fourth in the Rookie of the Year vote. Bud is now the Assistant Coach for the Rancho Santa Margarita baseball team. On Deck is honored to have Bud among our many excellent instructors.

Mike Mora
Mike is presently the Assistant Varsity Coach at Gahr High School. Prior to his arrival (2005-2007) Mike acted as the Head Coach of the Artesia High School Softball team and Assistant Varsity Softball Coach at Cerritos High School (2003-2005). Mike has been coaching competitive softball for over 18 years at age levels spanning 10U – 18U. Teams under Mike's tutelage have been invited to ASA National Tournaments on ten occasions

Fred Hanker
Fred is a 25 year veteran of playing, scouting, coaching and managing baseball and fastpitch softball. After a successful baseball career at Lakewood High School he played four years at Cal State Dominguez Hills. He currently holds 12 school hitting records, was voted All CCAA four times and All West Regional two times. In the 1987 MLB draft Hanker was drafted by the Oakland A's organization in the 31st round. He has accumulated over 20 years of fast pitch playing against top notch competition

Mike Rogers
Mike is presently in his third year as the Head Coach for the varsity Softball team at Gahr High School. Prior to coaching at Gahr, Mike was the Assistant Varsity Coach for the St. John Bosco baseball team. Mike is presently the Head Coach for USA Athletics 18 Gold Girls Fastpitch softball team.

Gina (Bessolo) Mascaro
Born in Lakewood California, Gina attended Lakewood High School before attending the University of Pittsburgh, acting as their starting pitcher from 1998-2002 in the Big East Conference. Gina has the distinction of holding the University's record for no-hitters in a career. Gina also worked as the Assistant Softball Coach at Marshall University from 2002-2004. Gina has competed internationally in Venezuela and Zimbabwe against the Olympic and Jr. Olympic softball teams. Gina has also been an instructor in these countries as well as in China. Domestically Gina has led pitching camps and clinics at various universities to include the University of Pittsburgh, Marshall University, and Kent State University. Gina has been a private pitching instructor for over 15 years.

Jamie Buksa
I have been involved in softball since I was 5 years old. I am very passionate about the game. I teach the physical and mental aspects of the game. I enjoy working with the kids and see them achieve their goals. I coached ASA travel ball for two years, I coached at Millikan High School for 6 years and have done private lessons the past 2 years. While coaching at Millikan I won 6 Moore League Titles and 1 CIF SS Title. I can instruct girls with their batting, fielding, and catching.

Kerry Dienelt

Throughout my days competing on the college and ASA circuit, I continued to represent Australia from 1985 through 2000. I competed in 3 World Series; in 1990 (Illinois), in 1994 (Newfoundland) and 1998 (Japan). I was a member of the inaugural 1996 Olympic Games held in Atlanta. I finished 7 th on the batting average leaders in the world, with an average of .364 including 3 home runs. In 1998 I was elected captain of the Australian Team for the 1998 World Series and the 2000 Olympic Games. I am a 2-time bronze medalist from the 1996 & 2000 Olympic Games. I officially retired from the sport in September, 2000, after losing to the U.S.A. in the Bronze medal game. I left my cleats at home plate after the game, an image captured in the L.A. Times. Since retiring I have been inducted into 3 Hall of Fames; in 2003 the Northern Territory, in 2004 the Australian Softball Hall of Fame and in 2005 the International Softball Hall of Fame.

Mike Bessolo

Mike has over 12 years private pitching instruction experience.  He works with all levels of softball pitchers, specializing in beginning pitchers, with a high concentration on fundamentals such as leg / hip drive, wrist snap, arm extension and follow through. His coaching emphasizes a variety of drills to help with building speed, leg strength and fine-tuning the quality and accuracy of pitches. He has assisted in clinics at various levels. He helped coach both his daughters to full pitching scholarships at the University of Notre Dame and the University of Pittsburgh.

Mark Clabough

Coach Clabough has been coaching at either the collegiate or high school level since 1984. His Wilson teams won 3 Moore League titles in his six years at the school. For three consecutive years (1998-2000) his Bruin team played in a CIF Division I semifinal, advacing to the Finial two times (1999, 2000). He led his Los Alamitos teams to three Sunset League championships, the most in the school’s hsitory. At Poly last spring (2011) his pitchers set a school record for E.R.A (1.83).
